Ready to tackle something big? This 2-day trek is your shot to conquer Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4167m. We’re talking a quick, badass escape from Marrakech, straight into the wild High Atlas Mountains. It’s not a technical climb—just a solid, challenging hike—so if you’re in decent shape, you’ve got this. Grab your camera, because the views from the top? Unreal. Plus, you’ll have a local guide who speaks English, a cook whipping up meals, and mules hauling your gear. Let’s do this!

What’s the Vibe?
We kick things off in Marrakech and head to Imlil, the launchpad for trekking in Toubkal. Day 1 takes you up to the Toubkal Refuge through valleys and villages that feel like a step back in time. Day 2? That’s summit day—standing on Mount Toubkal, staring out over the High Atlas Mountains, feeling like a champ. Then it’s back down to Imlil and Marrakech, probably with a story or two to tell. Between November and April, you might even get to strut your stuff with crampons and an ice axe for that extra edge—don’t worry, it’s still all about walking, not climbing.

Itineraries

Day 1

Marrakech to Imlil – Mizane Valley – Toubkal Refuge

We’ll scoop you up from Marrakech and drive south, leaving the city chaos behind for the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through the Haouz Plain, past Asni, and into the foothills of the Toubkal Massif—those jagged peaks are no joke. We hit Imlil, ditch the wheels, and meet your guide. Then it’s time to start trekking in Toubkal! You’ll head up the Mizane Valley, passing Aremd—a big Berber village with terraced fields of corn, potatoes, and walnuts—and swing by the shrine at Sidi Chamarouch. It’s a cool spot with a little waterfall and houses stacked like a chaotic puzzle (only Muslims can cross the bridge to the shrine, though). From there, the trail climbs—zigzagging past rocky cliffs and the snowline—until you reach the Toubkal Refuge at 3206m. Crash there for the night and rest up. About 5 hours of walking.

Day 2

Summit Mount Toubkal (4167m) – Back to Imlil – Marrakech

Rise and shine—it’s summit day! We’re going for Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s tallest peak. The trail takes us up the south cirque, past the refuge, over a stream, and across scree fields that’ll test your legs. It’s not fancy footwork, but the loose rocks and altitude will keep you on your toes. Worth it? Oh yeah—the views are insane the whole way. Once we hit the ridge, it’s a short push to the top. At 4167m, you’re king of the High Atlas Mountains, with Marrakech to the north, the Anti-Atlas and Sahara to the south, and nothing but epic in between. Some old Roman dude called these “the most fabulous mountains in Africa,” and from up here, you’ll get it. After soaking it in, we retrace our steps, head down the mountain, and trek back to Imlil. From there, it’s a ride back to Marrakech—probably around late afternoon. Walking time varies, but plan for a full day.
